Expected Turnaround Time

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Pure isolate of anaerobic organisms; identification of multiple organisms will result in an additional fee(s).
Volume
Viable colonies
Container
A swab transport inoculated with the isolate from a pure culture or anaerobic culture transport packed as an etiologic agent. Maintain a subculture at submitting laboratory.
Collection
Bacterium derived from cultured clinical sample. Send pure culture in anaerobic transport. Maintain subculture at submitting laboratory.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature.
Causes for Rejection
Broken tube; unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between specimen and request label; mixed culture
