ARVO 2025 -- Many animal models of glaucoma rely on intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction alone as an assessment of treatment efficacy, ignoring the hallmark retinal function and structural changes of the disease. However, assessment of functional endpoints such as full field and pattern electroretinography (ERG) and visual evoked potential (VEP), and careful structural assessments of the retina using in vivo imaging and histopathology, also are critical to understanding the neuroprotective efficacy of experimental glaucoma treatments in animal models.
